Judo is a physically demanding sport, where the main objective is to lift and throw your opponent onto their back from a standing position. Our Judo Program is geared toward the development of takedown skills, specifically those that utilize the grips provided by the gi uniform. Judo class begins with a vigorous warm-up which includes a variety of drills that help develop balance and the ability to breakfall (i.e. to land in a safe manner after being thrown). The second section of the class focuses on uchikomi movements, which develop and reinforce the students ability to throw and subsequently secure the opponent on the ground. The last portion of the class is used for “randori” or open sparring, in which students practice the techniques that they have learned. Kids, adults, and students of all levels are welcome.
